Lonesome goes to the movies

Lonesome came into Kathrine's life when he followed her brother, Billy, home on his bicycle - Billy's not Lonesome's. Kathrine was a 7th grader and her mother would not let Lonesome into the house in case he belonged to somebody. Kathrine would sneak down at night and let him in. Then early in the morning she put him out. Later when dates would come to pick her up to go to the drive in, they were shocked when she had Lonesome with his leash on ready to go. They would say "WHAT are you doing is he coming with us!?" to which Kathrine would reply "Yes". She always was certain of safety at the drive in with Lonesome in the back seat! Shockingly so, there were some repeat dates!

Lonesome gets Busted!

Lonesome came to live with Kathrine when she was in 7th Grade. That was before leash laws and everybody's dog was just let outside to run and let back in. One day he did not come home when called and we worried and worried and went looking and could not find him anywhere. Unfortunately he had gone to a place called Dogwood Dell a few blocks from us where they had lots of outdoor Shakespearian plays and musicals. Later we heard from a neighbor that Lonesome was last seen on stage interrupting the actors and entertaining the audience with laughter. While there he was taken into custody by Animal Control, which we did not know! After he was missing for two days my Grandmother and I decided to go to the pound. Nanny got all dressed up in her sable coat with her walking cane looking quite proper. I on the other hand decided to wait in the car while she went in to look because I couldn't stand to see the caged animals. Nanny came out without Lonesome and I got teary. We waited a few minutes, then Nanny said "Let me go back in there, there was this one dog that looked like Lonesome." Her eyes were not that good and he had lost some weight but sure enough it was Lonesome! Lo and Behold she exits this time with Lonesome on a leash! He jumped in the car and was so happy to see me with lots of dog kisses. Nanny told me the person at the desk at the pound that this dog had been apprehended on stage during a production at the outdoor theatre. Needless to say, I never let him off the leash again!

When Kathrine was planning her marriage to her first husband Charlie Coudriet, he came to her with honeymoon suggestions, she asked "Where do you suggest we go?" He suggested St. Croix and her response was "My Dog can't make that kind of a trip!!" The honeymoon was moved to the Outer Banks of North Carolina where the newlyweds and Lonesome, Kathrine's American Fox Hound, rented a cottage!
